Preface:
This reference guide covers the scope of work for the installation of other types of flooring that may or may not be included in Parts B, C, D, or E. The work included or excluded may vary due to local or Provincial Bid Depository rules or local trade practise. The Design Authority should verify the extent of work covered with the local Bid Depository, resilient flooring trade and Floor Covering Association for specific local requirements and variations to the following items.
1 • WORK INCLUDED
Other flooring work shall include the following:
.01 Verification of moisture and alkalinity testing.
.02 Minor preparation of substrate surfaces including filler and primer, to extent noted in PART A12 Substrate Preparation of the NFCA Reference Manual.
.03 Approved panel underlayment when specified prior to the installation of flooring.
.04 Approved moisture barrier or sheathing membrane when specified.
.05 Acclimatization of all materials.
.06 Approved resilient / acoustical underlayment when specified.
.07 Following types of flooring: (the following are examples - other flooring types not listed under Parts B, C, D, or E may be included here provided they are pre-approved by NFCA for inclusion)
.08 Following types of bases:
.09 Flooring accessories, including:
.10 Adhesives with application.
.11 All site-applied surface sealers, stains, and finishes including site touch-up of factory applied finishes or pre-finished flooring.
.12 Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
.13 Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
.14 Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owner's Maintenance Manual.
.15 Caulking to own work where required.
.16 All flooring cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).

.08 Following types of bases:
- Vinyl and rubber base.
.09 Flooring accessories, including:
- mouldings and trims.
- reducing / transition strips.
- thresholds.
- expansion fillers.
.10 Adhesives with application.
.11 All site-applied surface sealers, stains, and finishes including site touch-up of factory applied finishes or pre-finished flooring.
.12 Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
.13 Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
.14 Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owner's Maintenance Manual.
.15 Caulking to own work where required.
.16 All flooring cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).
2 • WORK NOT INCLUDED
Other flooring work shall not include the following:
.01 Secure, heated, on-site storage.
.02 Temporary heat, ventilation, light, power, and sanitation.
.03 Water.
.04 Hoarding and barricades.
.05 Hoisting.
.06 Shop drawings.
.07 Substrate testing including moisture (vapour emission) and alkalinity tests in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing. Note that this work may be included in the work where flooring is the only contract (as in the installation of resilient flooring in existing rooms or areas).
.08 All other preparation of surfaces required for installation of other flooring including substrate preparation, and supply and installation of self-levelling cementitious underlayments and poured latex toppings.
.09 Trowelled-on latex underlayment except when specified in conjunction with specific installation systems.
.10 Maintenance and protection of installed flooring prior to Substantial Performance. Such protection shall be provided by others using materials and methods acceptable to the floor covering manufacturer.
.11 Repairs to damage by others during and after completion and acceptance of the work.
.12 Cleaning and sealing or the application of any other type of protective coatings, unless specified.
.13 Final cleaning, except as noted in the NFCA Manual.
.14 Base to demountable partitions, unless specified.
Other flooring work shall not include the following:

3 • ADDITIONAL WORK
Subject to agreement between the floor covering contractor and the General Contractor, Construction Manager, or Owner the following work may be performed or sublet by the flooring contractor at additional cost:
.01 Testing of all substrate surfaces for moisture (by moisture testing not moisture indicator testing) and alkalinity in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
Note: When such testing has not been done by the General Contractor, or Construction Manager, or the Owner in a timely manner and has to be done by the flooring contractor it may be cause for a short delay in the work to the extent of the time required for testing.
.02 Preparation of substrate surfaces over and above those noted in Work Included. This may include:
.03 Repairs to flooring as a result of damage caused by others.
Subject to agreement between the floor covering contractor and the General Contractor, Construction Manager, or Owner the following work may be performed or sublet by the flooring contractor at additional cost:
.01 Testing of all substrate surfaces for moisture (by moisture testing not moisture indicator testing) and alkalinity in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
Note: When such testing has not been done by the General Contractor, or Construction Manager, or the Owner in a timely manner and has to be done by the flooring contractor it may be cause for a short delay in the work to the extent of the time required for testing.
.02 Preparation of substrate surfaces over and above those noted in Work Included. This may include:
- Removal of existing flooring and finishes including adhesives (Refer to Part AA2).
- Abrasive (e.g. brush, bead, shot) blasting of surfaces.
- Supply and installation of a self-levelling underlayment (Refer to Part AA1).
- Supply and installation of an approved panel underlayment if not specified prior to the installation of bamboo, cork, and other flooring included in or if required as the result of removing existing flooring (Refer to A10 and A12).
.03 Repairs to flooring as a result of damage caused by others.
