Preface:
This reference guide covers the scope of work normally covered under hardwood flooring installations. The work included or excluded may vary due to local or Provincial Bid Depository rules or local trade practise. The Design Authority should verify the extent of work covered with the local Bid Depository, hardwood flooring trade and Floor Covering Association for specific local requirements and variations to the following items.
1 • WORK INCLUDED
Hardwood Flooring work shall include the following:
.01 Verification of moisture and alkalinity testing. This may mean conducting moisture indicator testing (not moisture detection testing) in accordance with Part A11 - Substrate Testing.

1 • WORK INCLUDED
Hardwood Flooring work shall include the following:
.01 Verification of moisture and alkalinity testing. This may mean conducting moisture indicator testing (not moisture detection testing) in accordance with Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
.02 Minor preparation of substrate surfaces including filler and primer, to extent noted in PART A12 Substrate Preparation of the NFCA Floor Covering Reference Manual.
.03 Acclimatization of all materials.
.04 Approved moisture barrier or sheathing membrane when specified.
.05 Approved resilient / acoustical underlayment when specified.
.06 All hardwood flooring including, but not limited to the following:
.07 Hardwood flooring accessories, including:
.08 All adhesives required for installation.
.09 All fasteners required for installation (nails, staples, screws, etc.).
.10 All site-applied surface finishes, seals, stains, and bleaches, including site touch-up of factory applied finishes or pre-finished flooring
.11 Layout / pattern plans when so specified.
.12 Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
.13 Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
.14 Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owner's Maintenance Manual.
.15 All hardwood flooring cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).
.03 Acclimatization of all materials.
.04 Approved moisture barrier or sheathing membrane when specified.
.05 Approved resilient / acoustical underlayment when specified.
.06 All hardwood flooring including, but not limited to the following:
- solid strip and plank flooring.
- solid parquet flooring (including self-adhesive parquet flooring).
- engineered strip and plank flooring.
- engineered parquet flooring (including self-adhesive engineered parquet flooring).
- acrylic impregnated wood flooring.
- strip block flooring.
- sports flooring including sub-floors, resilient pads, vent-cove base, and floor sockets.
- special proprietary hardwood flooring systems.
- wood base and quarter round trim.
- wood stair assemblies (i.e., wood treads, risers, nosings, and stringers (excluding metal nosings) where indicated).
.07 Hardwood flooring accessories, including:
- mouldings and trims.
- reducing / transition strips.
- thresholds.
- expansion fillers.
.08 All adhesives required for installation.
.09 All fasteners required for installation (nails, staples, screws, etc.).
.10 All site-applied surface finishes, seals, stains, and bleaches, including site touch-up of factory applied finishes or pre-finished flooring
.11 Layout / pattern plans when so specified.
.12 Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
.13 Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.

2 • WORK NOT INCLUDED
.01 Temporary heat, ventilation, light, and power facilities and services.
.02 Water.
.03 Hoarding and barricades.
.04 Hoisting.
.05 Secure, heated, on-site storage.
.06 Shop drawings.
.07 Substrate testing including moisture (vapour emission) and alkalinity tests in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing. Note that this work may be include in the work where flooring is the only contract (as in the installation of hardwood flooring in existing rooms or areas) subject to prior agreement with the Owner.
.08 All other preparation of surfaces required for installation of hardwood flooring (except as otherwise noted herein).
.09 Final cleaning, except as noted in the NFCA Reference Manual.
.10 Maintenance and protection of installed hardwood flooring prior to Substantial Performance. Such protection shall be provided by others using materials and methods acceptable to the hardwood flooring manufacturer.
.11 Repairs to damage by others during and after completion of work.

3 • ADDITIONAL WORK
Subject to agreement between the floor covering contractor and the General Contractor, Construction Manager, or Owner the following work may be performed or sublet by the flooring contractor at additional cost:
.01 Testing of all substrate surfaces for moisture (by moisture testing not moisture indicator testing) and alkalinity in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
Note: When such testing has not been done by the General Contractor, or Construction Manager, or the Owner in a timely manner and has to be done by the flooring contractor it may be cause for a short delay in the work to the extent of the time required for testing.
.02 Preparation of substrate surfaces over and above those noted in Work Included. This may include:
.03 Repairs to hardwood flooring as a result of damage caused by others.
Subject to agreement between the floor covering contractor and the General Contractor, Construction Manager, or Owner the following work may be performed or sublet by the flooring contractor at additional cost:
.01 Testing of all substrate surfaces for moisture (by moisture testing not moisture indicator testing) and alkalinity in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
Note: When such testing has not been done by the General Contractor, or Construction Manager, or the Owner in a timely manner and has to be done by the flooring contractor it may be cause for a short delay in the work to the extent of the time required for testing.
.02 Preparation of substrate surfaces over and above those noted in Work Included. This may include:
- Removal of existing flooring and finishes including adhesives (Refer to Part AA2).
- Abrasive (e.g. brush, bead, shot) blasting of surfaces.
- Supply and installation of a self-levelling underlayment (Refer to Part AA1).
- Supply and installation of an approved panel underlayment if not specified prior to the installation of hardwood flooring or if required as the result of removing existing flooring (Refer to Parts A10 and A12).
.03 Repairs to hardwood flooring as a result of damage caused by others.
