American Carpet Cushion Council (CCC) Minimum Recommendations for Commercial Carpet Cushion Installations:
This chart illustrates products that meet minimum CCC guidelines for carpet cushion in commercial areas for three levels of traffic. Better grades of carpet cushion than the minimum suggested are always recommended when possible to provide more support and cushion for carpet. Any cushion type and grade certified as meeting CCC's guidelines for cushion being installed at a particular traffic level can be expected to perform satisfactorily at that level under normal conditions, when used with a carpet made for the same specified traffic.

Footnotes: Maximum thickness for any product is 3/8" For all thicknesses, weights, and densities allow a -5% manufacturing tolerance.
Wt - denotes weight. / Th - denotes thickness. / D - Denotes density in lbs./cu.ft. * = Polymer densities.
Oz - Denotes weight in ounces/sq. yd. ** = Particle size not to exceed 1/2".
CR- Denotes Compression Resistance in lbs./sq. in. as measured by ASTM D3676 *** = Ash content = 50% maximum.
CFD - Denotes Compression Force Deflection as measured by ASTM D3574.

American Carpet Cushion Council (CCC) Minimum Recommendations for Residential Carpet Cushion Installations.
This chart illustrates products that meet minimum CCC guidelines for carpet cushion in different traffic areas of a home. Better grades of carpet cushion than the minimum suggested are always recommended when possible to provide more support and cushion for carpet.
Class 1 (Light and Moderate Traffic): Recommended for areas such as living, dining, bedrooms, and recreational rooms. Class 2 cushion may be used in Class 1 applications.
Class 2 (Heavy Duty Traffic): Recommended for areas such as lobbies and corridors in multi-family facilities, and all stair applications. In areas where heavy use is expected, the Carpet Cushion Council suggests using firmer grades of cushion. These areas include stairways, halls, and areas where heavy furniture is used (such as living rooms and dining rooms). Softer cushion may be used in bedrooms and lounge areas where use is lighter and a plusher "feel" is desired.
