Preface:
This reference guide covers the scope of work normally covered under resilient flooring installations. The work included or excluded may vary due to local or Provincial Bid Depository rules or local trade practice. The Design Authority should verify the extent of work covered with the local Bid Depository, resilient flooring trade and Floor Covering Association for specific local requirements and variations to the following items.
1 • WORK INCLUDED
Resilient flooring work shall include the following:
.01 Verification of moisture and alkalinity testing. This may mean conducting moisture indicator testing in accordance with Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
.02 Minor preparation of substrate surfaces including filler and primer, to extent noted in PART A12 Substrate Preparation, NFCA Reference Manual.
.03 Acclimatization of all materials.
.04 Following types of resilient flooring:
.05 Following types of bases:
.06 Vinyl and rubber stair coverings (treads, risers, stringers, nosings, landing coverings, and hazard warning strips).
.07 Resilient floor coverings for exterior locations.
.10 Fixed resilient flooring mats and runners when specified in conjunction with regular resilient flooring installation, or when sold separately.
.11 Resilient flooring accessories, including:
.12 Adhesives with application.
.13 Custom installation requirements when specified (such as heat welding, flash coving, provision of special drains, water jet cutting for inlay work, etc.).
.14 Seaming plans when so specified.
.15 Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
.16 Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
.17 Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owner's Maintenance Manual.
.18 Caulking to own work where required.
.19 All resilient flooring cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).

.04 Following types of resilient flooring:
- Vinyl sheet and tile flooring including solid vinyl and vinyl composition tile.
- Linoleum sheet and tile flooring.
- Rubber sheet and tile flooring.
- Cork tile flooring.
- Specialty resilient flooring (safety flooring, gym flooring, etc.).
- Conductive flooring.
.05 Following types of bases:
- Vinyl and rubber base.
- Self-cove and flash coved resilient sheet flooring bases including trim capping and cove former strip (drywall to be installed 1/4" short of sub-floor by others to accommodate installation of cove former strip).
.06 Vinyl and rubber stair coverings (treads, risers, stringers, nosings, landing coverings, and hazard warning strips).
.07 Resilient floor coverings for exterior locations.
.10 Fixed resilient flooring mats and runners when specified in conjunction with regular resilient flooring installation, or when sold separately.
.11 Resilient flooring accessories, including:
- reducing / transition strips.
- nosings, including metal.
.12 Adhesives with application.
.13 Custom installation requirements when specified (such as heat welding, flash coving, provision of special drains, water jet cutting for inlay work, etc.).
.14 Seaming plans when so specified.
.15 Removal of packaging material and remnants specifically pertaining to this trade.
.16 Provision and packaging of maintenance materials and excess stock as specified.
.17 Provision of care and maintenance instructions for Owner's Maintenance Manual.
.18 Caulking to own work where required.
.19 All resilient flooring cash allowance and/or contingency funds specifically called for in the Contract Documents (specifications).
2 • WORK NOT INCLUDED
Resilient flooring work shall not include the following:
.01 Temporary heat, ventilation, light, power, and sanitation.
.02 Water.
.03 Hoarding and barricades.
.04 Hoisting.
.05 Secure, heated, on-site storage consistent with normal living conditions and manufacturers product requirements.
.06 Shop drawings.
.07 Subfloor moisture and alkalinity testing in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing. Note that this work may be included in the work where flooring is the only contract (as in the installation of resilient flooring in existing rooms or areas) subject to prior agreement with the Owner.
.08 All other preparation of surfaces required for installation of resilient flooring including substrate preparation, and supply and installation of self-leveling cementitious underlayments and poured latex toppings. Preparation of surfaces in accordance with the latest edition of ASTM F710.
.09 Supply and installation of wood panel underlayment.

.08 All other preparation of surfaces required for installation of resilient flooring including substrate preparation, and supply and installation of self-leveling cementitious underlayments and poured latex toppings. Preparation of surfaces in accordance with the latest edition of ASTM F710.
.09 Supply and installation of wood panel underlayment.
.10 Trowelled-on latex underlayment except when specified in conjunction with specific installation systems.
.11 Maintenance and protection of installed resilient flooring prior to Substantial Performance. Such protection shall be provided by others using materials and methods acceptable to the resilient floor covering manufacturer.
.12 Repairs to damage by others during and after completion and acceptance of the work.
.13 Cleaning and sealing or the application of any other type of protective coatings, unless specified.
.14 Final cleaning, except as noted in the NFCA Manual.
.15 Base to demountable partitions, unless specified.
.16 Loose laid resilient mats and runners.
.17 Resilient flooring as an integral part of access flooring systems, unless specified.
.18 Resilient bulletin / tack boards on walls, unless specified.
.19 Resilient desk top coverings to millwork, unless specified.
.20 ( Where flash cove base is required) Repairs to drywall installed short of sub-floor

3 • ADDITIONAL WORK
Subject to agreement between the floor covering contractor and the General Contractor, Construction Manager, or the Owner the following work may be performed or sublet by the flooring contractor at additional cost:
.01 Testing of all substrate surfaces for moisture (by moisture testing not moisture indicator testing) and alkalinity in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
Note: When such testing has not been done by the General Contractor, or Construction Manager, or the Owner in a timely manner and has to be done by the flooring contractor it may be cause for a short delay in the work to the extent of the time required for testing.
.02 Preparation of substrate surfaces over and above those noted in Work Included. This may include:
.03 Repairs to resilient flooring as a result of damage caused by others.
Subject to agreement between the floor covering contractor and the General Contractor, Construction Manager, or the Owner the following work may be performed or sublet by the flooring contractor at additional cost:
.01 Testing of all substrate surfaces for moisture (by moisture testing not moisture indicator testing) and alkalinity in accordance with requirements of Part A11 - Substrate Testing.
Note: When such testing has not been done by the General Contractor, or Construction Manager, or the Owner in a timely manner and has to be done by the flooring contractor it may be cause for a short delay in the work to the extent of the time required for testing.
.02 Preparation of substrate surfaces over and above those noted in Work Included. This may include:
- Removal of existing flooring and finishes including adhesives (Refer to Part AA2).
- Abrasive (e.g. brush, bead, shot) blasting of surfaces.
- Supply and installation of a self-levelling underlayment (Refer to Part AA1).
- Supply and installation of an approved panel underlayment if not specified prior to the installation of resilient flooring or if required as the result of removing existing flooring (Refer to Part A10 and Part A12).
.03 Repairs to resilient flooring as a result of damage caused by others.
